Last week’s performance
Fractional secondary markets
It was a mixed week for video games with NES cartridges propping up the rest. Specifically, a copy of SMB 3 lifted the NES category single handedly when it popped over 100% on Rally. Mario Kart 64 was the laggard dragging the N64 index down.

At Auction
Heritage is running a Signature Video Games auction through the end of October, and there are several notable titles on the block.
Blue Chip
A first production NES Zelda cartridge is the featured lot. According to Heritage, it’s one of three-known “NES TM” copies of the game. A slightly newer but better-graded version sold in July for $870k. If this copy eclipses that figure, it’s a sign that blue chips are retaining their momentum. Look for something in the $1.2m to $1.6m range if so.
All eyes on Mario as well, as an early production SMB is up for grabs. It’s a later version than that which sold for $660k in April. Already at $336k, a strong showing here will reinforce blue chip strength.
Other bits to keep an eye on
A WATA 6.5 Nintendo World Championships is up as well. These are quite rare, so it’ll be a useful data point for the WATA 8.5 graded copy on Otis. Anything over $50k indicates the copy on Otis is undervalued at $288k (current market cap).
There are three WATA 9.8 A++ Pokemon games available (one each red, yellow, blue). Pokemon have been lagging behind other games recently. Record-setting sales here could reverse that trend. If we don’t see blowout numbers from them, though, it could signal weakness.
