Cultural assets performance 2021

Cultural assets continue to ping-pong around the 60% to 70% mark for the year. With three trading weeks to go, it’s set to be one of the, if not *the*, best performing asset categories of 2021.

Fractional secondary markets

A 1986 Macintosh Plus signed by Steve Jobs and the rest of the Apple team was up 62.5% last week in real-time trading over at Rally. Likewise, Patchwork Skulls on Otis was up 150% following the news of Virgil Abloh’s passing.

MSCHF’s Medical Bill was down 43%.

At Auction

It’s a quiet week, so I’ll refer you back to the auctions highlighted in our last newsletter:

Sotheby’s Treasure Auction opens December 7 with several interesting and historical pieces. One of the standout pieces is the 1840 Penny Black, which is the world’s first postage stamp with a pre-auction estimate of £4M – £6M. If you’re looking for something a bit more affordable, head over to Goldin’s pop culture auction, where you can find sealed and graded VHS tapes from the original Star Wars films, a 1971 Diamonds are Forever VHS, and some uh, less–desirableitems.
