Cultural Assets Insider – Dec 3, 2021

Welcome to Cultural Assets Insider.

We analyze offerings across the landscape to discover undervalued, mispriced, and hidden gems.

Cultural assets performance 2021

Cultural assets continue their strong 2021 as one of our best-performing categories. Look for them to tick up into the new year.

Last week’s performance

Fractional secondary markets

Not much action last week as most items were flat to slightly up.

All stats come from assets trading on the secondary markets at Otis, Collectable, and Rally

This Week (and last)

Steve Jobs wore this. It was the 80s.

Fractional Platforms

Steve Jobs Middle Finger Jacket

  • Market Cap: $75,000
  • Inferred Value: $60,000
  • Drop: 11/30/21 on Rally
  • Recommendation: Pass (valuation; asset was bought recently at auction by Rally with no interim catalysts; valuation discussed in further detail on Alt Assets Cultural Assets Discord channel)

Buyout Offer

Declaration of Independence New Hampshire Broadside

  • Market Cap: $2,000,000
  • Rally received a buyout offer of $2.8M (gross) on 11/30 which would represent a 40% premium to the 11/19 IPO price
  • Shareholders have until 11 am EST on 12/2 to vote on offer

At Auction

Sotheby’s Treasure Auction opens December 7 with several interesting and historical pieces. One of the standout pieces is the 1840 Penny Black, which is the world’s first postage stamp with a pre-auction estimate of £4M – £6M.

If you’re looking for something a bit more affordable, head over to Goldin’s pop culture auction, where you can find sealed and graded VHS tapes from the original Star Wars films, a 1971 Diamonds are Forever VHS, and some uh, lessdesirable items.
